Preapprenticeships provide an avenue for youth who are at least 16 years old to become qualified to enter registered apprenticeship programs in the same trade.

St. Lucie Public Schools offers preapprenticeship programs providing technical instruction to high school students beginning junior year into senior year. After completing their high school program, preapprentices may be granted preferred entry into registered and sponsored apprenticeship programs. Students may also receive credit for the completion of the registered preapprenticeship program, often shortening the program length by as much as a year.

The preapprenticeships offered in St. Lucie Public Schools lead into registered trades of Surgical Technician, Cook, Carpenter, Industrial Manufacturing Technician, Truss Design Technician, Pharmacy Technician, and Yacht Service Technician.
