St. Lucie Public Schools has opportunities for qualified candidates to join our substitute teaching team. Interested candidates will hold a minimum of an Associate’s Degree or 60 college credits and must agree to work at least one day per month. · Substitute teachers in Long Term Assignments (21 days or more) earn $100.00 per day. · Substitute teachers in our Critical Needs sites earn $90.00 per day for day to day substituting. · Our substitute teachers earn a base rate of $71.00 per day and receive a rate increase to $90.00 per day after meeting our frequency requirements. We value our substitute teachers and provide free tutorials and guidance to those individuals who wish to pursue teaching as a career.  

Process for Becoming a Substitute

  • To apply as a Substitute, click the “Apply Now” button above.
  • Your completed application will be processed by the Human Resources Department.
  • You will receive an email with instructions to schedule your fingerprint appointment.
  • When you come in for your fingerprints, you will have a sub packet to fill out, and there will be a $6.00 fee for your Substitute Badge, payable by check or money order made out to SLCSB.
  • After your background check is approved, you will be notified by the department of which you applied, and they will assign you accordingly.

Substitute Teachers

  • Complete the steps above.
  • After your background check is approved, you will receive an authorization notification to proceed to the on-line substitute training.
  • Substitute Teacher aides will be notified to attend the AESOP Training via email notification.
  • Substitute Teachers will be notified via email or in the applicants message board on how to access and complete the EdTrainingCenter on-line training. The charge for the course is $25.00. As a substitute for St. Lucie Public Schools, you will receive a $10.00 discount after you register to pay.
  • When completing the EdTrainingCenter course, print all five (5) course completion certificates individually after each course, or print (1) certificate after completion of all (5) courses.
  • You will also be required to print and complete the General Acknowledgement form found under the policies section in EdTrainingCenter and submit/attach it to your on-line application.
  • Once you have finished this process and turn in your documents, you will receive a notification asking you to contact Lisa Kimbrill at 772-429-7509 or substitutes@stlucieschools.org to schedule your training for AESOP.
  • After attending AESOP training, you will have your substitute badge picture taken. At that point, you may begin working.
