Students complete guided observations and field experiences to identify their personal interests and identify effective learning environments. Students develop a portfolio, learn about leadership, and pathways to becoming an educator.

Areas of Study
- The Principles of Teaching program on identifying the current, historical, philosophical, and social perspectives of the American education, including trends and issues. No prerequisite skills are needed.
- The program prepares students to understand the nature of human development and links this to lesson plans for working with students.
- Students will develop various class projects using instructional materials and activities to promote learning, classroom management strategies, and a supportive classroom environment.
- Throughout the program, students develop components of a working portfolio to be assembled upon program completion.
- Students apply their knowledge in real world education settings such as an internship in an approved setting based on students’ area of interests.
HONORS Credit for CTE Level 3 Courses
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Level III (3) courses are designed for students who have demonstrated an advanced level of interest and achievement in their CTE subject area. CTE Level 3 courses are more demanding and have requirements beyond those of standard CTE courses.
The aims of CTE level III courses are to promote:
- Opportunities for advanced work.
- Rigorous study of CTE content areas.
- Practical application of knowledge and skills.
- Transfer of knowledge and skills to work-based situations.
- College and Career credit and readiness.

This program supports students' college and career readiness. Students are college and career ready when they have the knowledge, skills, and academic preparation needed to enroll and succeed in college credit-bearing courses within an associate or bachelor degree program without the need for remediation. Students need these same attributes and levels of achievement to enter and succeed in post-secondary workforce education or to enter a career path offering a living wage and future advancement.
